Open Gardens
Society members open their gardens for the pleasure and enjoyment of fellow members and their friends. These events are not advertised to the general public. Open Gardens are a very important fund raiser for the Society. However, each Open Gardener has the option of donating one half of the takings from the event held in their garden to a charity or good cause of their choice.
The Society provides: cups, saucers, plates and spoons; coffee, tea, sugar and milk: cakes and biscuits; an extra electric kettle; people to serve food and drinks; and a lucky number draw prize.
The Society needs: somewhere to serve food and drinks; places for visitors to sit, chat and consume refreshments; and space for a plant/ produce stall. The Society takes donations “at-the-gate” and sells plants and produce from the stall.
Members and their friends make a minimum donation of £2.50 per person to enter the garden. In return they are given a ticket to the lucky number draw and offered free refreshments – a hot drink with a choice of home-made cakes. A second cup of tea or coffee is always available free of charge and another slice of cake is normally available, for a small donation.
The afternoon concludes with the lucky number draw and a small thank-you gift to the Open Gardener.
